The Talented Clementine, is a brand-new, fully staged musical adapted from Sara Pennypacker’s multiple award-winning Clementine series of children’s books. The story follows the misadventures of Clementine, an eccentric and loveable, yet unintentionally devious, eight-year-old through third grade, as she struggles to discover her talent in time for the school talent show.
As the night of Talent Palooza draws closer, Clementine grows desperate for an act, any act, she can perform. But the unexpected talent she demonstrates at the show surprises everyone–most of all herself.
The project is a collaboration between Encore Stage and Studio and Kid Pan Alley. Kid Pan Alley’s mission is to inspire and empower children to work together to become creators of their own music and to rekindle creativity as a core value in education. They’ve written close to 2,700 songs with over 65,000 children across the country. Their songs have been recorded by artists including Amy Grant, Sissy Spacek, Delbert McClinton, Cracker, Kix Brooks, Nashville Chamber Orchestra, Corey Harris, Suzy Bogguss and many others.
Most of the songs in the musical were written with elementary school children—providing an humorous and authentic glimpse into the world from their own unique perspective.
Paul Reisler is the Artistic Director of Kid Pan Alley and wrote the script and working with elementary school students wrote the songs for The Talented Clementine. He is a composer, songwriter, recording artist, performer and teacher. Over the past 42 years, he’s performed in over 3,000 concerts, recorded close to three-dozen albums, written Aesop’s Fables for Orchestra and Narrator, as well as the script and songs for a new musical entitled Bouncin’. He’s has written more songs than the Beatles, Bob Dylan, Joni Mitchell, and Stephen Foster combined—somewhere north of 3,500 compositions thanks in no small part to his army of young collaborators as well a handful of Grammy-winning co-writers.
