Third Graders Don't Write Love Songs (Elkin, NC)

(Elkin Elementary classroom recording)
by Paul Reisler, Kathy Hussey and Mrs. Maxey's, and Ms. Horton's 3rd grade
One of the girls suggested writing a love song. Someone else said "3rd graders don't write love songs," and this un-love song that's really a love song was born.
It made me cry.
I'm not gonna tell you I can't live without you
I'm not gonna say that I'm losing sleep
Because of the way that I dream about you
Or tell you this secret I keep

Cause third graders don't write love songs
It gives them a weird feeling inside
Sappy feelings just don't belong
In a third grader's song

I probably won't mention the way that my heart pounds
Or how much I stare at your picture all day
I'll never let on how shaky you make me
How the butterflies won't go away

Cause third graders don't write love songs
It gives them a weird feeling inside
Sappy feelings just don't belong
In a third grader's song

But I can't hide it now
You just heard it all
Instead of saying those three words
It's in this third grade song

But third graders don't write love songs
It gives them a weird feeling inside
Sappy feelings just don't belong
In a third grader's song
In a third grader's song
